Bach Flowers: Emotions in Our Pets

For some years now there's been great interest in everything related to animal behavior; there's currently a high demand for information on topics related to ethology and the cognitive processes involved in  this subject. Years ago we spoke of learning ability, behavior, “intelligence,” and other similar terms; however, nowadays, one word has changed everything: Emotion. Today we talk about the emotions responsible for our animals' behavior and the mental processes involved in their behavior patterns.

Animals, like us, are the product of thousands of years of evolution; this process is always aimed at optimizing a species' ability to survive in order to achieve the primary goal: the perpetuation of the species.

By bringing animals into our environment, we inevitably affect the inherited behavior patterns so firmly fixed in their genetic code. The effect civilization has on our pets is evident, as it can be the reason some of our furry friends don't feel emotionally balanced.

Why Does Emotional Imbalance Happen in Our Pets?

The conditions of our modern life are far from meeting the needs of the animals we keep as pets — we keep birds that should fly for several hours a day in a small cage for years, we take dogs that need large amounts of daily exercise on short walks, we confine our cats to living in small apartments, etc.…

This is our way of life in civilization — we're able to rationalize that life in urban centers is this way and adapt to our environment, but for them, our pets, the environment we impose on them affects them negatively, and this is made even worse by the handling mistakes we make when inviting them into our space and way of life.

This isn't about analyzing the topic in depth, but it's clear that each pet has a level of social skill that determines their ability to communicate with others, understand their moods, and carry out behavior patterns aimed at influencing them. On the other hand, it can't be denied that each pet uses certain approach techniques toward others (whether people or animals) and uses body language to express their emotional states — that is, behaviorally showing the kind of internal feelings they have about the situation, in which, through their body language and attitude, they express that they understand the other's intentions.

Flower therapy has proven to be a wonderful ally for treating all the emotional issues that may be affecting our pets' health and balance. Bach flower essences work on a behavioral level, helping fears, traumas, phobias, stress and anxiety issues, compulsive behaviors, neuroses, destructive behaviors, maladjustment, rehabilitation, lack of motivation, learning, etc., be addressed quickly and successfully with flower essences, because they work to stabilize emotions, improving behavior.

At SIU we created a line of flower essences for our pets, so we can support processes like learning, arriving at a new home, mood changes, loss of appetite, etc., in a natural and highly effective way, since flower therapy acts quickly in our furry friends, helping them find their balance. Discover our line specialized in your best friend!
