What Are Chakras and How Do Their 7 Vortices Work?

The chakras, characterized as vortices of energy found throughout the body, allow human beings the possibility of knowing themselves. Connected from the crown to the base of the spine, the Chakras generate a characteristic vibration and color to act on the being and support the development of their consciousness.

Where Are the 7 Chakra Vortices Located?

  • Root or base chakra: At the base of the spine.
  • Sacral chakra: Around the navel.
  • Solar plexus chakra: Below the chest.
  • Throat chakra: At the throat.
  • Third eye chakra: Between the eyes.
  • Crown chakra: At the top of the head.

These wheels of light or energy keep spinning constantly, exerting a force from the higher world, with one predominating constantly over the other. When a chakra is blocked, it will spin slowly; however, when a chakra is activated, it will spin with greater force, meaning the person enters a state of balance.

What Do the 7 Chakra Vortices Work On?

  • First center – Root or base chakra: Part of the spine. Its shades are characterized by red mixed with orange, giving the sensation of being divided into quadrants, and it's linked to earthly existence. It relates mainly to inner security and stability.
  • Second center – Sacral chakra: Found in the pelvic region. Characterized by the color orange, meant to evoke solar vitality, and related to emotions and sexuality.
  • Third center – Solar plexus chakra: Located two fingers above the navel, characterized by a deep yellow color, and referring to the individual's confidence and self-esteem.
  • Fourth center – Heart chakra: Found at the center of the chest. Its color is green, representing the calm and serenity of air and nature. It's related to love and empathy toward others.
  • Fifth center – Throat chakra: Located in the throat area, this chakra is represented by the color sky blue. It refers to inner communication, verbal communication, and the expression of feelings. Its purpose is for people to better accept their lived experiences and embrace their uniqueness.
  • Sixth center – Third eye chakra: The sixth center is located between the eyebrows, and is related to intuition and wisdom, helping people avoid limiting themselves mentally.
  • Seventh center – Crown chakra: Described in Hindu texts as the “thousand-petaled center,” it's located at the top of the head and is related to spiritual connection and higher consciousness.

Now then, the Chakras are energy centers located throughout the body. However, these Chakras can become blocked, preventing energy from flowing freely and making the individual feel unbalanced.

Generally, the Chakras are affected when one or more emotions have been held onto for a long time, since keeping that emotion in that state can trigger one or more illnesses, or even cause the person to go through episodes of distress, disconnection from themselves, and even from others.

To balance the Chakras, techniques such as meditation, yoga, reflexology, and massage therapy can be used. Certain stones and crystals can also be used to help balance each chakra.
