Mini vacation rituals

Because packing is not just filling a suitcase. It is a ritual full of emotion, nerves, and those small traditions that are already part of the trip itself.

Let us be honest: in Colombia you do not simply pack a bag and go; there is a process, a ritual, lists in the notebook, on the phone, and in your head at the same time. You check the documents (twice), confirm the pet is set, know how much cash you are carrying, and make sure — come what may — that nothing is left behind.

Because traveling, even just a few hours by bus to the next town, lights up something special. a mix of emotion that keeps you up the night before, nerves that show up unannounced, and that adrenaline that starts long before you reach the destination.

The forever checklist and the rituals before

Every traveler has a checklist. The family travelers have at least three pages. The friends’ one usually lives in a WhatsApp chat with 47 messages of “did you pack the charger?” and “who is bringing the ibuprofen?”

In the same way, before leaving, everyone has their own protocol. There is the one who has everything ready three days early and the one who packs the night before with music at full volume. The one who checks the destination weather five times and the one who shows up and adapts to whatever is there. Also the one who plans every meal of the trip and the one who prefers to get lost and see what they find.

What almost all of them do share: some personal prep before leaving. Good rest, the travel look thought out ahead of time, that feeling of wanting to arrive well at the destination. Because presentation is also part of the ritual.

When you travel with company

Family travel has its own ritual category. There is a checklist leader, a full suitcase review, and at least one dramatic moment where something does not fit and everything has to be rearranged. The logistics are epic, but the shared emotion is priceless.

With friends, the dynamic shifts a bit. There are the group snack runs for the road, the debate over who brings the speaker, the playlist built by whoever has “better taste” in their own eyes, and that moment when someone proposes something off-plan and it ends up the best part of the trip.

There are also the disagreements — the one who wants to wake at 6am to see sunrise and the one who prefers a calm breakfast — and the stories told years later between bursts of laughter. Those are the ones that count.

The first-aid kit: that quiet hero

The travel kit is probably the most serious part of the whole ritual, though putting it together always turns into an adventure too. Pills for headaches, something for the stomach, bandages, sunscreen, and, for those who already know the power of natural essences, two allies that should not be missing:

Made for travel stress and jet lag. Helps you reach your destination feeling balanced, oriented, and ready to enjoy — not drained. 7 drops, twice a day.

Tea Tree essential oil with Peach flower essence. Natural multipurpose antiseptic: skin, wounds, surfaces, feet. Deep clean on a physical and energetic level.

The playlist and the good nerves

There is something about pre-trip nerves that feels different from any other kind. They are good, anticipatory ones. They are that mix of “do I have everything?” with “I cannot believe I am almost there”.

And the trip playlist is sacred for many. It starts forming days before, with songs for the airport or the road, songs for the ride, and the one that plays right when you finally see the destination appear.

What does not get packed, but always goes

The best travel memories rarely come from the tourist plan. They come from the unexpected moment: the restaurant found by chance, the conversation with someone local, the detour that ended up the most memorable part. Or the night the “quick” dinner lasted four hours because nobody wanted it to end.

Travel rituals are that: the way we prepare not only logistically, but emotionally. The way we tell body and mind that something special is coming. And with a good checklist, the playlist ready, and the kit packed right, the best trip is already under way.
