Three scents for three moments: essential oils for your mood

You walk into a house and know something about it before anyone speaks. It’s almost always the smell. It arrives before anything else, and we rarely register it as information.

Of all the senses, smell is the only one that doesn’t stop at the thalamus before reaching the brain. It goes straight to the amygdala and the hippocampus, the areas where emotion and memory live. That’s why a scent can take you back to your grandmother’s kitchen without you deciding to remember anything.

That’s where the Aromas Siu line came from. This month we are working with three: Calmar el Corazón, Lugar Seguro and Quiero Ser Feliz. Each one responds to a different moment.

The scent of a home does more than it seems

Homes have their days. There are weeks when the living room feels heavy even though nothing serious has happened, and you try to fix it by opening a window or moving the furniture around.

Smell is the quickest thing to change. In five minutes the room smells different. That doesn’t solve what is going on, but it does accompany the time ahead.

Calmar el Corazón: for the days when it’s hard to understand each other

It smells floral and soft. Ylang ylang opens it sweetly and grapefruit lifts it just enough so it doesn’t become cloying. Behind them are eucalyptus, geranium and lavender.

We created it for living together. For those afternoons when you’ve had three conversations that ended badly, or for the impatience that shows up when too many people share the same house for too many hours. Its floral blend, with lavender and beech as its main components, encourages composure and understanding toward others.

We use it when we need a hug in the silence of a scent.

Lugar Seguro: when the space feels heavy

There are rooms where you don’t sleep well, and it isn’t the pillow. You change the pillow, you change your schedule, and it stays the same.

Lugar Seguro has geranium, lemon, eucalyptus and lavender, which give it a fresh, clear scent. Ginger adds something earthy and warm underneath, which is what sets it apart from any ordinary citrus. Its floral blend, with walnut and mint as its main components, accompanies the feeling of occupying your own place. You notice it most after a move or a change of job.

It works well when you get home after a day with lots of people. Also on Sunday evening, when the week is already peeking around the corner.

Quiero Ser Feliz: for mornings that start without enthusiasm

This is the brightest of the three. Citrusy, with that joy of freshly peeled rind you recognize immediately. It’s the one you turn on to get moving.

It works well in the kitchen while breakfast is being made, especially on Mondays that feel heavier than usual. Its floral blend, with zinnia and heather as its main components, accompanies that enjoyment of what is happening now, without waiting for something big to happen.

What goes into an Aroma Siu

The wisdom of nature comes in two ways: as matter and as energy.

Essential oil is matter. It’s the plant distilled, concentrated to the extreme. Hundreds of kilos of flowers yield just a few milliliters. That’s what you smell, and it’s what makes a room change as soon as you turn on the diffuser.

The flower essence doesn’t smell of anything. It isn’t an extract of the plant but the energetic imprint of the flower, prepared with the method Edward Bach described almost a century ago. It’s the flower that has no smell and still accompanies a space.

In Aromas Siu both are dissolved in the same liquid. A single bottle, where the essential oil brings the scent and the flower essence brings the rest. That’s where the line’s signature comes from: scents charged with good energy, essential oils with flower essences inside.

How to use them: cold electric diffuser

All three go in an electric water diffuser, which works cold. Between 5 and 10 drops depending on the size of the room: five for a small space like a bathroom or a study, ten for a living room. Twenty or thirty minutes is enough; there’s no need to leave it on all afternoon.

Candle diffusers aren’t suitable for this. Direct heat degrades the oil and much of what you bought is lost. If yours is a candle diffuser, it’s worth replacing it before investing in scents.

Before you start, keep in mind:

  • Do not apply the oils directly to the skin or swallow them.
  • Keep them out of the reach of children and pets.
  • If someone at home has a respiratory condition, is pregnant or breastfeeding, or if there are young children, check with their doctor first. That decision isn’t ours to make.

How to choose yours

None is better than another; it depends on what that room needs today. If what feels heavy is living together, Calmar el Corazón. If it’s the space itself, Lugar Seguro. And if what’s hard is getting going in the morning, Quiero Ser Feliz.

All three are available in Siu stores and at www.siuesencias.com. If you have questions, at any of our locations we’ll help you choose.

Frequently asked questions

How many drops of essential oil go in the diffuser?

Between 5 and 10 drops in the diffuser’s water. Five for small spaces, ten for a living room or a large bedroom. More drops don’t give a better result, just a denser scent.

Are candle diffusers suitable?

Not for these scents. The heat of the candle degrades the essential oil. We recommend an electric water diffuser, which works cold and keeps the scent just as it is.

Can they be used every day?

Yes. The usual is one or two sessions of twenty to thirty minutes a day. There’s no need to keep the diffuser on continuously.

Can they be applied to the skin?

No. Aromas Siu are formulated for diffusing into the air, not for topical use. If you’re looking for flower essences for the skin, Crema Rescate Plus is made for that.

So essential oils have a scent and flower essences don’t?

Exactly. Essential oil is the distilled plant, which is why it has a scent. The flower essence holds the energetic imprint of the flower and has no smell. In Aromas Siu both go in the same bottle.
